The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has released a new Code of Good Animal Husbandry Practice for Sheep. This code sets out minimum standards for the welfare of sheep, covering areas such as housing, feeding, watering, and handling.
The code was developed by experts from around the world and is based on the latest scientific evidence. It is intended to help farmers and other animal keepers to improve the welfare of their sheep.
The code covers a wide range of topics, including:
- Housing: Sheep should be provided with adequate shelter that protects them from the elements and predators.
- Feeding: Sheep should be provided with a balanced diet that meets their nutritional needs.
- Watering: Sheep should have access to clean, fresh water at all times.

The OIE is encouraging governments and animal keepers to adopt the code as a way to improve the welfare of sheep.
