Early Life and Education

Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo was born in Mexico City on June 24, 1962. She earned a degree in physics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a PhD in energy engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

Political Career

Sheinbaum began her political career as a member of the leftist Democratic Revolution Party (PRD). She served as Secretary of the Environment for Mexico City from 2006 to 2012 and as Mayor of Tlalpan borough from 2015 to 2018.

In 2018, Sheinbaum was elected Mayor of Mexico City, becoming the first woman to hold that office. As mayor, she has implemented innovative policies in transportation, environmental protection, and social justice.

Nobel Peace Prize Nomination

In recognition of her work to combat climate change and promote peace, Sheinbaum was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021. Her nomination highlights the growing international recognition of her leadership and commitment to global issues.
