Early Life and Education
Joshua David Shapiro was born on June 20, 1973, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended George Washington University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctorate.
Political Career
Shapiro's political career began as a member of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners from 2004 to 2011. He then served as the Pennsylvania Attorney General from 2017 to 2023.
2022 Gubernatorial Election
In 2022, Shapiro ran for Governor of Pennsylvania as a Democrat. He defeated Republican Attorney General Charles Mastrangelo by a significant margin. Shapiro won the election with a campaign focused on maintaining abortion rights, expanding access to healthcare, and investing in education.
